Maria Weißenstein – trip to South Tyrol’s most important place of pilgrimage

Maria Weißenstein is one of the most honoured sites of the region. Especially after the visit of Pope John Paul II, in the year 1988, the number of visitors kept rising steadily; by now it is one of the most popular destinations in South Tyrol. You can reach the pilgrimage by car in 20 minutes.

Bolzano – excursion to the South Tyrolean capital

You can reach Bolzano by car in 25 minutes. The regional capital impresses with its medieval old town and gothic cathedral. What’s more, Bolzano offers many popular destinations in South Tyrol: the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, the Municipal Museum… Treat yourself to a shopping tour under the arcades, an Italian Cappuccino in one of the cafés on Piazza Walther/Waltherplatz; and on a sunny day to a pleasant walk over the Talvera/Talfer meadows – an absolute must during your holidays in South Tyrol.

Meran – the town with a spa tradition

Already Empress Sisi loved to spend her winters in the mild climate offered by the town Meran. Today you may still take a stroll between the elegant villas in Art-Nouveau style, on the magnificent promenades and of course visit the thermal baths of Meran – trademark of the town Meran. You can reach Meran by car in about 60 minutes from Obereggen.

Trauttmansdorff Castle – historic castle with gorgeous gardens

Empress Sisi loved to reside in this castle during her spa holiday in town. This is how the place reached its fame. Today the botanical gardens of Trauttmansdorff castle are one of the most renowned destinations in South Tyrol. On about 12 ha you find 80 gardens with the most exotic plants, coming from all over the world.

Max Valier Observatory – situated only a few km from Obereggen

In Gummer, at Untereggerhof, you find the first and only public observatory in South Tyrol, named after the famous astronomer Max Valier, who was born in Bolzano. Our reception staff will gladly offer you more details about the guided tours, offered regularly at the observatory.

Steinegg Museum – on the trails of old traditions

25km from our Hotel Cristal in Obereggen you find the mountain village Steinegg – home to a museum with an extensive collection of items, telling of traditional farming life and long forgotten trades.

Lake Kaltern – heavenly scenery in the South of South Tyrol

By car reachable in less than one hour, you find the most popular lake of the region in the South of South Tyrol, embedded amid South Tyrolean vineyards. Especially during a summer holiday, a drive to this unique destination in South Tyrol is a top highlight. At the warmest alpine lake, you find a variety of possibilities with sports, culture, recreational and gourmet experiences.
